I Didn’t Win $10,000…
12/5/10
…but I had fun trying! We were dropped off at Huka Falls (on the Waikato river?) and could follow a riverside path for a 1.5 hour walk into the town of Taupo. This alone gave me no shot at 10 grand, but the Taupo Lake golf challenge did! A floating putting green sits 111 yards from the lakeshore offering passerbys a chance to sink a ball into the blue or white pin for a variety of Taupo tourist activities OR the red pin for TEN THOUSAND NZ DOLLARS! I aimed for the latter of course, but missed them all.
Beautiful Huka Falls

How cute are the little peapod-type trees on the trail?

It’s not about winning or losing, it’s how you play the game:

But before all that happened we watched a guy activate a geyser (rotten eggs!). It’s funny because the British pronounce geyser “geezer.” So I said, well then what’s the word for a crotchety old guy? And the answer is geezer. Same pronunciation.

I rode my bike again today! 15K to the campsite with a few others from the group. Note: if you want to feel like your riding is improving, don’t go out with 3 Danes. Not only were they peddling in front with seemingly no effort as I trudged on behind, but they balanced their handbags and grocery bags on the bike handles while I, in turn, had given up even wearing a backpack.
