Mount Cook

12/11/10

New Zealand continues to amaze me. It’s as if there is another, more perfect, more scenic view around every turn. Especially this morning as we headed to the Mount Cook basin for a 3 hour walk.

And this is just on the drive there! First stop and then another a little closer:

Being silly and attempting to jump - Rachel from NZ (our guide), Christina from Denmark and Becks from England.

On the trek now…I know it’s confusing because I’m wearing my Africa shirt, but I’m still in NZ:

Probably my favorite shot of the day – love the milky color of the glacial water:

This was our destination before the 1.5 hour return walk to the bus – a glacier in the background and icebergs…I’d never seen any in person before! By this point the wind was ridiculous and I thought I was going to be pushed over. But I survived.

Amazing bush camp on the Pacific – complete with another beach bonfire and Danish “twist bread” made by Christina that is essentially roasted by a stick in the fire just like you would a marshmallow (but requiring more patience). Delicious, like a hot pretzel!
